What is Yoga Therapy?

The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF    YOGA THERAPISTS (IAYT)

Defines Yoga Therapy As:

“Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups. The goals of yoga therapy include eliminating, reducing, and/or managing symptoms that cause suffering; improving function; helping to prevent the occurrence or re-occurrence of underlying causes of illness; and moving toward improved health and well-being.”

My Yoga Therapy sessions are uniquely tailored for individuals or small groups. Sessions include an opening assessment with very practical therapeutic considerations. aka: How are you feeling? Any injuries or concerns you would like to rehabilitate?

I then use the tools of dialogue, movement, breath work and meditation to create a truly personal therapeutic yoga practice.

With over 20 years experience practicing and teaching Yoga, I have developed an ability to create highly individualized sequences that encourage self-inquiry and self-compassion.

My public classes offer step-by-step movement instruction, with considerations that include: injury management, mobility concerns, tension relief, improved breathing, mindfulness techniques and a variety of other Adaptive Yoga applications. Similarly, my Hatha Yoga / Asana classes offer easy-to-follow explorations based on different therapeutic themes or kinesthetic concepts.
